Ask for the name and registration number being claimed. Search Sri Lanka Tourism’s authorised driver directory for a tourist driver, and its separate guide directory for a chauffeur guide. Match the person, category and any displayed validity information. A directory entry is one check, not a guarantee of driving quality; a missing result is a reason to clarify with the authority, not proof by itself of wrongdoing.
Check the actual vehicle and luggage fit
Request the vehicle category, passenger capacity and realistic space for your bags, not just a polished photograph. Mention child-seat or accessibility needs early. Ask the operator to confirm appropriate driving documents and insurance for the service, and how substitutions are handled. Review information privately; do not post a driver’s identity documents or personal details in public groups.
Turn the quote into a written agreement
Record pickup dates and locations, destinations, agreed stops, hours, mileage and the total price with its currency. Clarify fuel, tolls, parking, waiting, driver meals and accommodation, extra-distance charges and cancellation terms. Confirm whether guiding, admission and safari jeeps are excluded. Reviews help you ask better questions, but neither ratings nor a low daily rate replace these details.
